How to apply for a PBS Dependent UK Visa
People often get confused between spouse visa and PBS dependent visa. You can apply for spouse visa if you are a dependent of someone who is a British citizen i.e. one with indefinite leave to remain in the UK. Whereas, if you are a dependent of someone who is not yet a British citizen and is on a tier 2 work visa then you are eligible for a PBS Dependent UK visa.
Proof of Identity
You should have an updated passport and national identity card.
If you’re married, your marriage certificate (english translation).
Proof of English Language Proficiency
You can either book an IELTS Life Skills test after checking for requirements on GOV.UK or like me, you can apply for the Visas and Nationality Statement from UK ENIC previously known as UK NARIC. For this, you’d need a medium of instruction letter from the educational institutes you studied at, your transcript and degrees and translations if not in english. The standard timeline for getting this statement varies depending on the type of delivery.
Character certificate from Police Department
I had trouble finding the exact timeline for which the character certificate was required. I got one made for past three years and it worked. So for this, you’d need the proof of address that is the house agreement papers with your name on them. If you live with your parents or if the house is under someone else’s name you will have to submit a copy of house ownership papers and an affidavit provided by the house owner stating your relationship with him/ her and length of your stay. A copy of your passport and identity card. You can apply for this certificate either online or by visiting the police station. It doesn’t take too long. You will be asked to provide contact details of a family member. They will contact that person later and ask for identity cards of two of your neighbours for verification purpose.
And then you get your certificate after 3 working days. I got it after a week because of the weekend.
UK Tuberculosis Certificate
When you start working on the visa application, book your UK TB test as soon as possible as the appointment wait time is upto a month or more. You can book an appointment online. Be careful while doing that as there are many companies who offer to get you an earlier and it’s totally up to you to pay them or apply yourself directly. This test involves a chest x-ray. Take your passport and passport sized pictures with white background with you. You also have to pay a fee for the test.
If your result is clear, you’ll get the certificate by the end of the same day.
Financial Statement
You’ll have to show that you have around £600 which equals Rs. 60,000 in your account which have been there for 180 days. If your partner’s certificate of sponsorship doesn’t say that it will provide maintenance expense for the dependants then you must show that you and your partner have enough money to support yourselves. I’d like to mention here that the financial statement should not be older than a month and should be officially signed and stamped by the bank.
Once you have all of the above documents and filled out the details in your application, you’ll submit the application and pay the fee online. Then you’ll be directed to a checklist. Download the checklist and move tot he last step of the process.
Biometric Verification
When I tried to book for biometric verification, the phone was dead. As it was during the pandemic, I had a hard time reaching the office. When I finally got hold of one of the representatives, they said there were no appointments available but I could book an On Demand mobile visa service which was quite expensive. Got appointment after a month. the mobile service consisted of a group of people who came to my house, asked a few questions, took my photograph and did biometric verification. They checked my documents and took the printed copy of my application along with copies of the documents as discussed.
The usual timeframe for a decision through this service is 15 working days and I actually received mine on the fifteenth day.
